Argentine designer Luciana Gonzalez Franco has created a floor lamp from recycled cable reels, just by adding an energy-saving lamp and the necessary lighting fixtures.

Known for exploring discarded objects and using them as raw materials for her creations, Gonzalez Franco is also influenced by folklore and craftsmanship. In this case, the famous One Thousand and One Nights (also known as Arabian Nights) collection of Middle Eastern and South Asian stories served as the aesthetic inspiration, hence the lamp's name Ali Bualá.

She told WGSN-homebuildlife: "It is inspired mostly by Aladdin and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves tale. Ali Bualá is a magic lamp: for a cable reel whose destiny was the garbage, becoming a lamp is something unexpected. It's like a genie saying, make a wish! In Argentinian Spanish, the phonetic for Voilà would be Bualá. That´s what I said once I'd seen it finished."
