M/M (Paris) Carpetalogue

Monday 22 October 2012

French artists M/M (Paris) are celebrating their 20th anniversary with an exhibition of four new, intricately woven carpets. Imagery and characters from the past two decades of the duo's work have been incorporated into the designs, which are on show until 15 December at Gallery Libby Sellers in London.

The exhibition presents the carpets as if they were pages, in a Carpetalogue that M/M's Michaël Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak describe as "a map of the M/M brain".

Each hand-woven carpet has been made in Varanasi, India, where Gallery Libby Sellers has worked closely with Abhisek Poddar to oversee the production. Poddar has previously handled similar projects for the likes of Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami and Julian Opie.
